I decided to make this web page Dec 2001. I didn't want to start until I could be relatively sure of the ending. I have always wanted to make this because, at the time, this was what I was looking for and it wasn't there. Created Dec 2011.

All to often, unfortunately, the people who have time to document their results are those who have lost their children. This was very foreboding. I am not a doctor, I am a father of a CDH survivor. By trade, I am an engineer and as such my information is from that perspective. I looked at the numbers, the trends and the patterns.

If I have any advice to give it is to immediately engage your health care professionals and develop your options. Time is exceedingly crucial.

This is Jarom's story. It is unique. There has never been a story like it nor will there be another. If you are here because your child has CDH, your child's story will be unique to him. But you are not alone.

Example images and pictures of Jarom shortly after his hernia repair and at age 10. The success story.

Discussion of Fetal Surgery and Tracheal Occlusion for a fetus diagnosed with Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH). Presented by Michael Harrison, MD, and the UCSF Fetal Treatment Center.

These videos discuss the procedures that Jarom had. They were performed by Dr. Farmer at UCSF. Dr. Harrison performed Jarom's third operation to check on complications. When he came out, he told me, "Your son is fixed".

  1. It was discovered that Jarom's stomach has reherniated through his diaphragm complicated by a large growth spurt. It began some time ago and has gone undetected. He was having trouble swallowing which led to this discovery. His esophagus is too short and damaged by reflux. He has to undergo stretching to open the esophagus, which is scared and later will need some sort of repair. A monthly procedure for 24 months is the course. Be tough bud, we love you.
